As one of the premiere fund-raising programs for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), Walk to Cure Diabetes is a series of charity walks held in select locations worldwide. Walking individually or in teams, participants raise funds for research into type 1 diabetes. With more than 200 walks held in the United States each year, the events attract over 900,000 participants. Since the event first started in 1992, Walk to Cure Diabetes has raised in excess of $1 billion for type 1 diabetes research.
Established in 1970, JDRF is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals who have been diagnosed with this disease. As the only organization with a strategic plan for type 1 diabetes research, JDRF has allocated in excess of $1.7 billion for diabetes research since its inception. In 2012, Forbes recognized the organization as one of its “all-star charities.”
